The Legend actually begins with Yankton, as the first Dakota Territory Capital established in 1861.  Yet, in a real sense, the legend begins much earlier with the Lewis and Clark exploration and mapping expedition of the the Great West.

The expedition's real adventure didn't start until they reached the unknown territory of the Dakotas.  There, surrounded by the prairie and rolling hills of what is now Yankton, the true legend began.

Referred to as the the Mother City, the Yankton area continues to offer great adventure to those who want to breathe fresh air, to be surrounded by an abundance of nature, and to start their own legend.
